Carnival of Death Book Preview

The Carnival of DeathThe Carnival of Death by L. Ron Hubbard
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

My first L.Ron Hubbard book. Interesting twists throughout and for a short story was quick to engage me. Although a good read, not my cup of tea, not much of a murder mystery type person. Not disappointed in the read though, just appreciative of it being a short story.

Excellent book! Candice did a great job captivating my attention for long periods of time, not an easy task......squirrel. Fumes and Prayer Book Review

Fumes and a Prayer: How to Live at the Edge and Still Be Home for DinnerFumes and a Prayer: How to Live at the Edge and Still Be Home for Dinner by Dennis Bauer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I enjoyed Fumes and a Prayer. It's amazing how life happens. What I mean by that is that I'm at a point in my life where decisions are being made and this book actually put into perspective some foundational pieces that I have always know but didn't quantify them as Dennis has. It is logic with structure and being an analytical person, I can relate and connect the principles to my current life situation.

Wil Love for Crumbs Book Review

Will Love For CrumbsWill Love For Crumbs by Jonna Ivin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Not a long read but I thought it was very good. The struggles and demons that Jonna had to deal with are tough for anyone to muster. Not sure how I would handle them if as many were in my past and current life. Book flowed nicely and tough to put down.

Excellent book. If you are the least bit interested in American and Japanese history, this is a must read. Incredible story about the Flyboys, hence the name. I will always look at the Pacific War from a different perspective.

Autobiography of Malcolm X Review

The Autobiography of Malcom XThe Autobiography of Malcom X by Malcolm X
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Excellent book! What I had been taught about Malcolm X was far from the man he was and what he stood for. It took me 464 pages to find my favorite quote of the book; in response to a speech Ossie Davis gave at Malcolm's funeral; "........most of them took special pains to disagree with much or all of what Malcolm said and what he stood for. That is, with one singing exception, they all, every last, black, glory-hugging one of them, knew that Malcolm-whatever else he was or was not-Malcolm was a man!"

A Thousand Splendid Suns Review

A Thousand Splendid SunsA Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

You think your childhood was rough, try this book out. Depressing but enlightening. Very well written and captivating. I did not know anything about the book before picking it up, I would suggest you do the same as I think it adds more to the story. I won't say more, worth the read.

11/22/63 Review

11/22/6311/22/63 by Stephen King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Very Good! Although I didn't find it boring at all, it really picked up in the later half and roped you into what turn the story would take next. People should not get stuck on this being some type of a "history" book. It does provide history but really the lighter side of the story to fill in the pieces you need to understand the complexity behind Jake and George.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Oz, #1)The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

At 42 years old one would not think they would read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz but after a friend (much older by the way)told me he had just read it and how different it was I had to. I am very glad that I did, it has as many books do more detail in the story and messages. Awesome read, one I would suggest.

Wild Animus Book Review

Wild AnimusWild Animus by Rich Shapero
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Hmmmmm, this book was a trip. I have never experienced LSD but if I ever did, I can bet it would be like the the trip Ransom was on throughout this book. Although I only gave this two stars, Shapero does take you on a trippy ride so in that sense it was good, if I was a fantasy type reader, it would have yielded at least three stars. I am not, so two stars it is.

The White Cascade: The Great Northern Railway Disaster and America's Deadliest AvalancheThe White Cascade: The Great Northern Railway Disaster and America's Deadliest Avalanche by Gary Krist
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Good book on an event that I had never heard of until a friend had mentioned it. Decent writing in my opinion, a little slow at times. The author did a great job in putting you "in the moment" when describing the devastation right after the event, very tragic.

Animal Farm Review

Animal FarmAnimal Farm by George Orwell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I don't have to tell too many people that this was a great piece of writing. And I can only imagine when George/Eric first created this story it did not set well at all, understandble why it took so long to get published and start selling. I feel better about eating bacon now :)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I couldn't imagine if this truly did exist, maybe it does but not such a demented level. The competition is more the rich having all they can while the truly homeless struggle to gather to survive. I enjoyed the book as well as the movie. Good read.

The Shack

The ShackThe Shack by William P. Young

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow, I must say one of the best books I have read. Very enlightening and awe inspiring. In my opinion this should be on everyone's list of must reads, not only simplfys ones view on life and all it has to offer but how you look at each relationship you have physically or emotionally. Maybe I'm simply inpressed but this is a 5 star, can't see how it could be less.
