10 Items or less

As we were standing in the ten items or less line yesterday I was thinking how far would that go? If I have nine regular items and buy a pack of stamps do the stamps count as one or twenty, I would say 1, crime solved. Now that was resolved, I thought what about lottery tickets? I had ruled the stamps out due to no opportunity to buy the stamps one at a time from the grocer, it is the pack or none. But with lottery tickets you can buy one at a time, therefore purchasing more than one in my grocery stats would put me over the ten. What about buying chicken from the deli? You can buy one or more. What about packs of cigarettes? What about bulk candy? Hot dogs we will let slide! Oh, there has got to be some rules somewhere!
