Last night while venturing home from a trip to the local food store AND Starbucks, the sun had already set, well if you can call it the sun but for this story it sounds better. The sun had set and jaywalking across the street, trouncing through the rain puddles that covered the glistening street, there is a lady and her dog. Knowing jaywalking isn't a crime, although it should be, I accept that she is legal and she even is safety vest equipped (wonder if they make safety snuggies?).
As I see her cross and catch the safety stripes I allow her to proceed as I brake. As I pass I come up a stop sign with a crosswalk about twenty feet from the jaywalking incident. I think to myself, this dumb ass goes through all the trouble to put the safety vest on and look ridiculous but is too damn lazy to continue up twenty feet and use the crosswalk. I also wonder why the dog didn't have a vest on, so selfish. On one hand she is trying to be safe and on the other she is not, I don't get it. I thought it was because crossing there was a shortcut and cutting her life would definitely be worth the forty feet she would have saved. But no, she had to go that way anyways, so she didn't really save any time or wear and tear of her Reeboks.
One could argue that she did save about a foot or two and you can take the angle she crossed and reference it against walking up and turning ninety degrees to access the crosswalk.
To validate my feelings, I looked over at my wife and said "what a dumb ass", she replied back with a silent nod and then squeaked out a "I know!".
