Barry Bonds and steroid use.
#1. I don't condone his actions at all but I have a big problem with hypercritical viewpoints on whether or not he should be allowed in the Baseball Hall of Fame due to performance enhancing aids. My question is what is the difference between steroid use now versus a personal trainer, top of the line free weight room or better workout shorts? Really, those things could be considered "performance enhancing aids". What about buying your food at GNC instead of Walmart? Wouldn't that make a difference in his performance? Maybe he eats a better breakfast, as you can see I can go in circles.
#2. Let's throw out his ripped biceps and powerful legs, it still takes great eye and hand cooridination to hit the damn ball out of the park. Timing is the majority of the ability to perform the way he has year after year. Look at Tiger, he can crush a drive far better than my 300# friend. One could say my buff friend should be hitting the ball further than Tiger?
Bottom line, did steroid use really make the home run record go down or is it just an excuse to not give Barry the credit he is due?*
