Pain Tolerance

Have you ever wondered what your pain tolerance level from 1 to 10 really is? Think about it, you get this medical survey before seeing the doctor for an injury or something painful. They want you to rate it from 1 to 10. Maybe they don't have the same tolerance level that I do? When I put down a 5, maybe that is a 8 to them? Maybe it's a 2? So, what does it really mean? We all have different tolerances to many different things. Like my website, I have a very low pain tolerance for it and some of you may rate it a 10 on painful (that might be because I'm a 10 on the smart scale and you're a 2?) not sure just a thought. Anyways back to it, so what is the point, you're really not telling the doc anything, even if they really look at what you scored yourself. Guess if you really think about, this applies to rating beauty on a scale of 1 to 10 as well.

Clearly Michel your not understanding here - you are telling the Doctor something very important - your drug tolerance! I want to get the most enjoyment from my injuries that I can - the max affect as it were. And well the beauty scale ... I'm a solid 10 so it's easy for me and I don't feel that it would be right for me to comment about all you 4 and 5's.

wow, never thought of that. If that's the case then I'm always a 10, bring on the pain killers. Maybe I can put them on ebay and make a little $$ as well.

Well, my time in the medical field finally pays off! I do have to agree with anonymous about the patients that catergorize their pain as a 10, hence why I've nicknamed Fridays as "Drug seeker Friday." But anyway, in my organization we use the 1-10 scale. I couldn't stand the chart until they added words to the scale. Example a 1 or 2 is annoying, 3 or 4 is uncomfortable, and so on. They even give a variety of words to choose from for those that may have different interpretations of a word. So, if you have pain, let me know what word you would describe it, and I'll tell you what number you are on the pain scale. :)

Makes sense, they should put that on all the forms then it would make more sense. But....I would think the scale could be 5 since each level is 1 or 2, 3 or 4 and so on.
