Hair you go

While drying my hair this morning (I know many are thinking what hair but I do have a few left) I was wondering why we call the device a hair drying when indeed it dries many hairs? Would be silly to by a device to just work on one hair at a time. Why do we call it a head of hair? Side track: my hairs take 1 minute and 45 seconds to dry. I'm thinking it will be less and less as I get older due to the expanding brain capacity that will be needed.

Speaking of hairs, why can we call a rabbit a hare but when referring to many we use rabbits or a herd? Hares is actually a word and can be used but I can't say I have heard it used. Did you know rabbity is a word? I think that will be a new one to describe my son.
