I got into a discussion about the word "bi-monthly". When our discussion, or misunderstanding, finally came to rest we discovered we had two different definitions of the word. I was understanding twice per month and he was understanding every other month. I thought it was funny, when it was all said and done, about how a little twist on the definition can bring such confusion. Twice per month and every other month is quite some difference. Webster defines it as:
1 : occurring every two months 2 : occurring twice a month : semimonthly
Bi-weekly, same result. Bi-annually, doesn't work, it means one thing....twice per year.....but what describes every other year?
Now going out of the box, my favorite, what about bi-sexual? Webster defines it as:
1 a: possessing characters of both sexes : hermaphroditic b: of, relating to, or characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward both sexes2: of, relating to, or involving both sexes
So why wouldn't it mean you would be drawn to the opposite sex every other encounter? Wow, how confused a person would be! Or, drawn to one sex every two weeks if they were bi-sexual bi-weekly.
I'm getting back into the box, good luck trying to figure that one out.
Ok, one last thought, can a bicycle that is ridden twice a month or every other month be a bi-weekly bicycle. Can a bike be a bi-sexual bicycle and would that mean my wife would ride the bicycle the first half of the month and I ride it the second half? Or can it be used only twice a year?

I would say that every other year would be semi-annually.
